The Unitree Robotics IPO Could Ignite Humanoid Robots Stocks

August 24, 2026  |  Research Insights

Earlier this year, Chinese humanoid robots powerhouse Unitree Robotics announced that it is planning an initial public offering (IPO) on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s tech-focused STAR Market1. This IPO is now expected to go ahead later this month2.

Here, we will take a look at Unitree's business model and product offering as well as the IPO details that have emerged so far. We will also look at what this capital markets event could mean for the broader humanoid robotics sector.

Who is Unitree Robotics?

Unitree Robotics (officially Hangzhou Yushu Technology Co., Ltd.) is a Chinese company that specializes in robotics. Founded in 20163 by CEO Wang Xingxing, it offers both quadrupedal (four-legged) robots and humanoids today.

In 2025, it delivered over 5,500 humanoid robots – more than any Western competitor4. Most of these robots were sold to research institutions, AI developers, and universities.

Unitree’s Robot Lineup

Unitree offers a range of robot models today4. In the quadruped space – where it makes products for both consumers and industrial applications – its models include:

  • Go2: An AI-driven consumer quadruped that features advanced LiDAR mapping, real-time obstacle avoidance, and dynamic companion tracking.

  • As2: A compact, industrial-grade quadruped built for complex terrain inspection, search and rescue, and advanced research applications requiring high payload stability and power.

  • A2: An advanced, mid-sized industrial quadruped featuring dual 3D LiDARs for 360° situational awareness, a 25 kg walking payload, and an optional wheel-leg conversion for high-speed, multi-terrain deployment.

  • B1: A heavy-duty, all-weather industrial quadruped boasting a full IP68 waterproof rating for complete water immersion, a robust 50kg chassis, and high-torque knee joints engineered for grueling outdoor security patrols and industrial inspections.

In the humanoid robots space, its products include:

  • G1: Launched for mass production, the G1 is Unitree's flagship model for the commercial humanoid era. Standing at 130 cm and weighing 35 kg, it features 43 degrees of freedom, three-finger dexterous hands, and 360° detection perception.

  • H2: A full-sized, 180 cm intelligent bionic humanoid robot engineered for advanced AI research, dynamic balance, and complex industrial workflows.

  • R1: A lightweight, entry-level humanoid aimed squarely at affordable education and development.

  • H1 / H1-2: A more basic robot, this was Unitree’s first universal humanoid robot.

Unitree’s Business Model and Strategy

Unitree’s strategy revolves around offering robots at lower prices than its rivals (its G1 humanoid starts from just USD $13,5004). By undercutting the pricing of Western competitors such as Boston Dynamics, it has brought robots out of research labs and into the wild.

As for how it has been able to undercut competitors, it’s down to its vertically integrated supply chain. Today, Unitree designs and manufactures a large proportion of its robotic components in-house, meaning that it is able to keep its manufacturing costs low.

Looking ahead, Unitree is aiming to scale up its manufacturing aggressively. Its five-year goal is to produce 75,000 humanoid robots and 115,000 quadruped robots annually5.

It also plans to aggressively transition into a software-and-platform business. Note that it recently launched an AI skills marketplace called UniStore6, where third-party developers can build and monetize specific robotic behaviors (e.g. a precise industrial manipulation task).

Unitree’s Financials

In 2025, Unitree generated revenue of RMB 1.70 billion7 (approx. USD $235 million), an increase of 335% year-over-year. This significant increase in its top line was fueled by shipments of its humanoid robots (G1 and H1), which overtook quadrupeds to become the company's largest revenue driver.

Net profit for the year amounted to RMB 280 million7, up 196% year-over-year. So, Unitree was able to grow its profits while ramping up production.

The IPO Details

On March 20, 2026, Unitree submitted a draft prospectus for an IPO to the Shanghai Stock Exchange7. This was approved just 73 days later on June 1, 20267.

The reason the application was approved so quickly is that Beijing has designated embodied AI and robotics as critical, high-priority strategic sectors. As a result, Unitree’s application was fast-tracked.

IPO subscriptions were opened on August 108. According to South China Morning Post, the IPO was oversubscribed 5,500 times over8.

Unitree will raise about 6.1 billion yuan (US$904 million) from the IPO8. This will value the company at 60.99 billion yuan8, putting its trailing price-to-sales ratio at around 36.

Note that Unitree plans to allocate nearly half of the IPO proceeds toward software and AI development over the next three years to advance its embodied foundation models (which allow robots to simulate physical reality and predict outcomes before moving).

What the Unitree Robotics IPO Could Mean for Humanoid Robotics Stocks

Unitree Robotics’ IPO on Shanghai’s STAR Market could be a watershed moment for the humanoid robotics sector. Because not only does Unitree have state-of-the-art robotic products, but it also has revenues and profits.

The fact that the company is already profitable could help shift the narrative around humanoids from a futuristic concept to a metric-driven industrial reality. This could fundamentally reshape how global investors price, evaluate, and trade humanoid robotics stocks, leading to more interest in products such as the Themes Humanoid Robotics ETF (BOTT).
